Warming Up

So I thought I would post up some warm up sketches that I've done in the past few days. I usually do these kind of sketches just before I work on a comic page. It keeps me feeling fast and loose when I start penciling a page. Enjoy. By the way, there's a crap load of stuff.

Welcome back folks, time for another episode of From the Files of ...Stuff (cue thunder sound effects). So I pulled out a short story that never got finished. It's a story about a young teen that decides to become a superhero. She uses her cheerleading outfit as a costume and hits the streets. It ends on a cliffhanger, and then I had another project to do. There's two alternate pages that are done in grey tone, it was done done in photoshop and then abandoned.

So today I was going through my external hard drive, shuffling through porn and artwork. And I found a few pages that I did and abandoned a few years ago. Some were good, others...well....lets focus on the good stuff. A lot of the work takes me back to a time where I was still working at the movie theater, trying to improve my artwork, and writing. There are some ideas that I really want to get back to finishing or redoing. So on that note here's the first post of the many pages that I would like to call: From the Files of ....Stuff.

This short comic was going to be a anthology of superhero stories, kind of a mix of Astro City and Sin City. This one was going to be the start of the anthology and lead into other heros popping up and taking over the mantel of the original hero. A lot of the heros were going to be amateurs, some make it through day one, others don't even survive the first hour. I even had an idea of having a deaf hero....Now that I think about it. Austin Skyline

Here's what I'm working on for Zombie Shotgun. I was asked to draw a scene of the Austin skyline, the first image is the process of getting the skyline done. I had the director send me a jpeg of the current city of Austin. As I got that image, I reduce the levels and go over the skyline with the paths tool.

The next step is to stroke the path and then freehand the trees with the brush tool. Once that was done, I looked over the image and realized that I could do some grey tones on the buildings and bridge. I still have some more work to do till I get this completed. Stay tuned

Impostors, Old Stories and More Color

Hello,again. First things first, go see Captain America...do it. Now, on to the art work.... So the first piece is for the Sketch Saturday Facebook group. The topic was draw your own Gotham City impostor from the game with the same name. I went with impostor Robin.
Second is a random piece that I decided to do after I finished doing an issue of Deadend. Something I always do when I'm done with a comic project. Its kind of a reward for myself after devoting my time in getting a project done.
The last two is from a book that I wrote and illustrated a few years ago but never got to complete. I always wanted to color the two main characters. The first one was just the flat colors, and the last one is the final piece. Someday I'll get this book done and ready to be presented to the public.

-1-2 character inked $10 USD

- All art work is done on 9x12 Bristol boards (if you want it on 11x17 art boards, then it will be an extra $10)
- You can choose any character you want, just as long as you have reference for me to go on.

- Please give me a detailed description of what you want in the piece.

- Will only accept cash, check, or money order as payment (I've been having some problems with my paypal lately)

- Only twenty spots available

Here's the forth teaser for @ZOMBI3_SHOTGUN. Took about a day to get the piece done. All done on Photoshop. We're working on a teaser episode "Episode 0" of Zombie Shotgun, it's a mix of live action and animation. More details will follow soon.

Zombie, Doctors and Nudes...oh my.

Sooooo...how's everyone doing? Good? Awesome. So here's some stuff I've been messing around on Photoshop:
The first two pics are of the tenth Doctor from Doctor Who. David Tennant is perhaps one of my favorite Doctors of the entire series. I got choked up when he said "I don't wanna go" just before he regenerated. This pose was from the episode "Utopia". The first pic was an earlier attempt at coloring on PS.
The third pic is just me trying my shot at drawing zombies. I'm doing a short film that involves me doing some animation (never done any animation before, why not do it now). It's called Zombie Shotgun. Check out the twitter page @ZOMBI3_SHOTGUN. And they have a facebook page too :Zombi3_shotgun fan page.
Finally, I did this piece as a spur of the moment type of drawing. I haven't drawn any nudes in a while so one night, I thought I might just sketch one up. It turned out so well that I decided to try to color it too. I recently picked up some books on coloring digitally and used what I learned on this piece. In the end I thought it turned out very well. There's still some work that I need to do when it comes to coloring but so far I'm glad with the result.

Sketches Galore

So here's something I'm going to try doing on this blog. Start posting some stuff off of my sketchbook (via Photoshop or my actual sketchbook), and give you some comments or a update on what I'm doing currently. Lets start with the four pieces that I have here.
The three sketches are an idea that I have been working on for a long time. I've written many drafts and made many different designs over the years. The book is called Guardian, its a mix of everything I've read and watched growing up. I have a new version of the story which is going to be in volumes instead of individual issues. There's so much to tell in the story that it becomes hard to find a stopping point just to finish one issue.
As for the last image, of course its everybody's favorite sidekick, Robin. This was the first time I started sketching something on my old Wacom tablet. It took some time to get the hang of it. Eventually I was able to get a good sketch out and this was the result. Back then I was using Manga Studio, but now I'm using Photoshop CS5. Its a good program, much better than the older versions.
Well, thats it. Hopefully I'll post some more sketches in the coming days or weeks. Here's hoping.

What the hell?!

Yeah it's been a while since I posted anything on this blog. I've been extremely busy with working Miss Masque, working at Spencer's, and moving to a new apartment. The good news is that I just finished the pencils to issue 3 and 4 of MM, and I'm off to ink the two issues and I'm done. I look forward to seeing the finishing product. Now for some art.... This is a double page spread for the forth issue of Miss Masque, I love how this turned out.

Hey folks, so here's a brief update on what's recently going on.
Sunday, I finished doing a interview for literaryescapism.com, the interview will be posted on the site on July 21 so I'll give you a heads up when it goes up.
Second, I just finished inking four more pages of Miss Masque #1, so that leaves me with 11 pages to go. I still have to get some character sketches, and thumbnails ready for issue 2.
Well, that's it. I heading to bed and hopefully I'll have some more sketches posted on here or on Deviant Art. Later.

What's up and what's going on with my internet...

Greetings folks, just wanted to update on what I'm doing this week. I've been very busy with finishing Dusk vol. 2, plus I'm in the middle of inking Miss Masque #1 and working on thumbnails for number 2. By the way, if you want to check out volume one of Dusk, you can order the book on amazon.com. I've had some problems with my internet recently; I'm only able to get online like around 2 am to 12 pm, after that I'm screwed. I've called my internet provider and they'll have someone check it out on Monday (boo). So I won't be able to post anything up until my internet gets fixed. But till then, here's two pics that I did in my sketch book. One is Diana from Miss Masque, and the other is Miracleman (one of my favorite comics that I've read recently).

Well, I finally did it. I finally set up a Blogger account. The reason I did this is so I can start posting some of my art work and possibly post some rants that I've been dying to say. Now for the name...Big Kid is a nickname I got when I was working at a local comic shop a few years ago. I'll give a detailed explanation in a future post. Till then here's the first piece I did about two years ago. I don't know what her name is or where it came from so...yeah. Enjoy
